Arriving home, Alfie’s swept up in the Vic’s New Year celebrations. Fed up of hospital, Kat pulls out her drip, commandeers a taxi and heads home. Every time Alfie tries to get upstairs to see Tommy, something stops him. He finds Charlie slumped in a corner, drunk. After sorting out Fat Boy, Kim and the sound system, Alfie finally makes it upstairs. When Kat arrives home, she’s surprised by the quiet atmosphere in the bar. Excited, Kat bursts into the bedroom, but stops when she sees paramedics with a sombre Alfie, Charlie and Mo. Kat realises her baby’s dead.

When Kat and Alfie are asked if they want to see Tommy, Kat runs away. Back at the Vic, Mo sits with her. Alfie looks for Kat, when he gets back to the pub Billy and Julie are clearing up. Kat tries to get the pub ready to open. She’s not ready to say goodbye to Tommy, but Alfie gently persuades her they have to return to the hospital. When Kat sees the baby’s body she’s insistent ‘that’s not my baby’.

The news about Tommy stuns Michael, while Ronnie's interest is piqued by Kat's revelation.

Abi is left reeling after a love-sick Darren proposes to Jodie. Kat makes a decision when her and Alfie's attempts to reignite their love end in disaster.

Glenda informs a shocked Roxy that it was Phil who stole her wedding money. Phil is forced to take drastic action when Glenda threatens to expose him at his party.

Whitney's light fingers leads to a headache for Janine. Whitney makes a dangerous decision, and Janine has a narrow escape at the R&R.

Still hurt that Kat kissed Michael, Alfie puts on a cheery front and organises a Mexican night at the Vic. Alfie pawns his wedding ring for the money he owes Michael, but later discovers Michael’s returned the money. He gives the money back and tells Michael that he saw him kiss Kat, but Michael insists Kat kissed him. Roxy’s worried about Alfie, who realises she’s the first person who’s asked how he is. Alfie’s doodled K & A in a heart over his Mexican night flags. Kat’s touched and confesses that she kissed Michael. Alfie doesn’t react, but violently smashes the Piñata for Mexican night. Alfie tells Kat he doesn’t care about the kiss, but he lost a baby too, and she’s never asked him how he’s coping. Alfie admits sometimes he hates Kat, because this is all her fault.

Kat's continued torment at losing baby Tommy proves too much for Alfie...

Zainab and Masood get much more than they bargained for when they put aside their misgivings and meet with Yusef. Ronnie takes drastic action to curtail Roxy and Michael's burgeoning relationship while Julie, Kim and Mo join forces to persuade Kat to talk to Alfie. Heather finally reveals the true extent of her financial woes to Dot.

Alfie and Michael return from Brighton. Jack punches Michael, believing he come on to Ronnie. Michael insists Ronnie fancies him, not the other way around, but Ronnie denies it. At Ronnie’s insistence, Jack tries to buy Michael’s share of the boxing gym lease. Michael agrees, on one condition, Jack asks Ronnie about the photo she has of him. Roxy’s jealous when she sees Michael in the Vic with another woman. Jack searches through Ronnie’s things and finds the photo.

Heather Trott faces the toughest day of her life as money shortages, a desperate visit to her mother and an altercation with Shirley all lead to terrible tragedy.

A heartbroken Jack pleads with Ronnie to get professional help after he witnesses her meltdown in the Vic. Darren makes a devastating discovery at Heather's flat while Syed and Christian come to a life-changing decision about their surrogacy plans. Kat is thrown when she bumps into Alfie, and Roxy makes an upsetting discovery about Michael.

Alfie is on hand to comfort Kat when she receives some sad news. Shirley and Dot are appalled to discover the state of Heather's flat while Darren reaches a momentous decision about George. Christian and Syed wait anxiously for news from Roxy while Ronnie makes her first visit to the counsellor's office.

It is the grand opening of the B&B, and Zainab is horrified to discover the identity of Kim's first customer. Meanwhile, Heather reaches a decision about George's future, Janine takes her revenge when she is upstaged by Whitney at Ricky's birthday party, and Alfie is desperate to prove that he is indispensible to Kat.

Whitney, desperate to make amends, gets herself into trouble, only to be rescued by a handsome stranger. Meanwhile, Kim thinks it is time for Denise to move on, Shirley tries to bolster a forlorn Heather, and Roxy is determined to salvage her salon.

An alienated Whitney misreads signals and ruins her friendship with Lauren as a result. Janine goes to extreme lengths to scrape together money for the rent. And Patrick and Kim get Alfie to turn on the romance.

Max needs Whitney to fix the mess she has made, but she ends up burning all her bridges in Walford and turning to her new friend for help. Zainab's decision to keep the Square's new resident a secret from Masood comes back to bite her, and Heather discovers Julie's secret.

Masood is determined to find a way of financing the perfect engagement ring, but Zainab struggles to accept Yusef's presence in the Square and resolves that they get rid of him. Meanwhile, Denise and Kat find their pasts catching up with them, and Ronnie's lies continue to spiral.

Denise files for divorce and decides to celebrate the start of her new life with a party, but the rift between Masood and Yusef threatens to overshadow the celebrations. Jay is unaware that he has a new admirer, and Glenda demands to know what is really going on with Ronnie.

Shirley's thrilled when Phil returns to the Square, but Glenda is less than happy when he foils her plan to get Roxy's money back. Tamwar and Afia hatch a plan to reunite their warring families, and Kat finds herself growing closer to Shenice while Ian sets out to impress Jane.

However, her mother reacts angrily at his attempt to try to discuss what happened - and reaches a momentous decision. Lola tells Billy she is pregnant, prompting him to accuse Tyler of being the father, while Jean receives an unexpected bit of good luck and Carol tries to make peace between Dot and Rose

Tanya unleashes a torrent of abuse on her relatives when they try to discuss her recent behaviour - but is interrupted by an unexpected visitor. Meanwhile, Lauren visits the hospital, where she discovers her mother has been missing appointments. Dot claims not to know who Rose really is, and Abi suspects Jay is the father of Lola's baby

Meanwhile, Max's brother Derek sets about making his presence felt in Walford, but both Pat and Carol are far from pleased to see him. Jamie Foreman (Layer Cake) joins the cast

Roxy and Jack prepare for a custody hearing, Masood and Zainab discuss their divorce, and Yusef tries to talk Amira into moving to Pakistan with Yasmin - hoping that if she agrees to go, then Zainab will follow

Zainab feels humiliated after news spreads about Masood's night with Jane, and tells Yusef she will go to Pakistan with him - but receives a shock when he proposes to her. However, she begins to have second thoughts when Tamwar expresses his disgust. Phil becomes certain Jack is his tormentor and ransacks his flat in search of the missing file, while Derek offers Alfie some work selling fridges

Yusef celebrates his birthday, but the day turns sour when his cousin Tariq confronts him about his engagement - so the doctor tries to buy his silence by offering him control of the Argee Bhajee. Derek brags to Janine about how he used to bully Michael, Alfie enlists Tyler and Anthony's help to sell the fridges, and Syed is in a foul mood following a meeting at the bank

Afia warns Yusef to leave London - but instead he breaks down and tells Zainab he started the fire that nearly killed her in Pakistan. The police raid Phil's properties, leaving Derek and Anthony worried their illicit goods may be discovered, while Alfie refuses to discuss Kat's night out and Janine argues with Michael about money

Phil's plans to lure his tormentor out into the open are repeatedly thwarted, until he finally gets information about who it might be - but when a confrontation takes place, his rage has terrifying consequences. Zainab nervously prepares to marry Yusef, who tries to keep her away from anyone who might change her mind, while Derek's callous behaviour leads Rainie to realise how much she has hurt Tanya

Billy fears Lola may have lost her baby, but Phil is more concerned about the missing file - though Shirley warns him the last thing he needs is to be charged with assault. Zainab lashes out at Yusef after he insults Kamil, but he responds by slapping her - and when he coldly warns her worse may be to come, she decides to run away. Pat hopes a day out at the seaside will cheer her family up, though Ricky has other problems on his mind, while Jane and Ian both make surprising announcements

Mandy begins to doubt whether she is ready to marry Ian following a visit from Pat, who has found out about her night with Ricky. Yusef takes Zainab to the airport after deciding they need to leave Walford immediately - but they are unable to board the flight when she discreetly drops her passport in a bin, feigning surprise at the check-in desk that she has lost it. Meanwhile, Jane discovers converting to Islam is more difficult than she had imagined

Zainab is distraught following Kamil's disappearance, and pleads with Yusef to tell her where he has taken him. Bianca's family excitedly prepares for her return from prison, Max worries about Jean's state of mind, and Amira suggests to Syed that they should pose as husband and wife at their business meeting. Meanwhile, Heather gets into the Christmas spirit at the Vic's grotto

Alfie is convinced Jean needs professional help after a worrying incident with Shenice, but Kat angrily insists she is the best person to take care of her. Bianca's children are upset when Ricky reveals she has to stay in prison - until they get a surprise at the school play. Meanwhile, Denise urges Masood to save Zainab from Yusef

Masood sneaks into Zainab's house in a bid to rescue her when Yusef briefly leaves her alone, but discovers she still does not know where Kamil is - leaving him struggling to escape before Yusef returns. Ricky nervously tries to find the right time to tell Bianca about his night with Mandy, and Kat begins to realise the extent of Jean's troubles when she finds her handing out money outside the Vic

Masood and Zainab try to put a stop to Yusef's schemes - but the crisis also starts to rekindle their old passions. Phil enlists Ben's help to catch his stalker, while Bianca and Kat hold a joint Christmas party for their families at the Vic, though Pat makes it clear Janine is not welcome. Elsewhere, Christian returns to Walford and is stunned to discover Amira and Syed are planning to move to Pakistan
