In her Paris studio, an art teacher and great admirer of Paul Cézanne is murdered just as her husband, a painter, calls her from Aix-en-Provence, believing he has finally found the right vantage point to paint Mont Sainte-Victoire, following in the footsteps of his master. Captain Antoine Verlay and historian Florence Chassagne quickly make the connection between this unusual murder and the work of the famous Provençal artist. At the Grévin Museum in Paris, a historian specialising in the painter Jacques-Louis David is found murdered in the bathtub of the revolutionary Marat, a scene that replicates the master's famous painting.
