In this environment of machismo and aggression, Xolani cares for a defiant initiate from Johannesburg, Kwanda, who quickly learns Xolani's best kept secret, that he is in love with another man.
The Wound is a 2017 South African drama following Xolani, a factory worker who takes leave to mentor young men during a traditional Xhosa circumcision initiation ceremony in the Eastern Cape. Set in a remote mountain camp where masculine codes reign, the film explores Xolani's hidden identity when his secret attraction to another man is discovered by a defiant initiate from Johannesburg.
